The film made $161 million domestically which makes it the month’s largest opening in history. The previous record holder was The Twilight Saga: New Moon with $142 million.
Overseas, The Hunger Games sequel starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth made $146 million for a worldwide weekend total of $307 million.
The original film which opened in March 2012 made $152 million during its opening weekend, so this is a big win for the franchise and its future.
However, my precious babies did NOT take the take the title for the biggest opening that was set in 2013 by Iron Man who raked in 174 million as it opened in the summer of 2013.
